Easyjet at Southend International Airport

Easyjet at Southend International Airport

Easyjet started flights from Southend International airport in Essex last week. The  newly built multi-million pound terminal will also be home to the ever growing budget airline.

EasyJet will operate 70 flights a week to a number of European destinations including Barcelona, Ibiza and Faro in Portugal and around 800,000 passengers will take off from the Essex airport in the first 12 months.  EasyJet will be operating three Airbus A319 planes, and around 150 easyJet staff will work at the airport, which will be the carrier's 11th UK base.

In the next few months a dedicated railway station will be opened at Southend International Airport,  with up to eight services an hour to Stratford – site of the 2012 Olympic Games, and to London Liverpool Street station, both in well under an hour.

Southend International Airport

Southend International Airport also has a new state-of-the-art control tower and work on the runway extension is well under way.  The new terminal building along with a sizable hotel will be completed by the autumn 2012.

WhichHoliday.TV plans to check out this improved airport in 2012.  However it being only a hour away from central London, you can see why Easyjet and the Essex airport has invested so much money into this project.Check out some of our London features – Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Tate Modern, St Paul’s Cathedral and Big Ben.
