Tower of London

The Tower of London is one of the ‘must see’ attractions in London, you can easily spend a day at the Tower and there really is something for everyone.
Walking across Tower Bridge you will gain an impressive view of the White Tower , which was built by William the Conqueror  in 1078.  There are several Towers to explore within the fortress including The Bloody Tower, where the Little Princes were murdered and The Cradle Tower, which was Edward III’s private watergate
“Legend says that the kingdom and the Tower will fall if the six resident ravens ever leave the fortress.”
Throughout history the Tower has served as an armoury  , a menagerie , a treasury , the home of the Royal Mint , The Royal Observatory, it was also used as a public records office, and of course home of the Crown Jewels.

Five Tower of London Facts.

  1. The ravens eat 170g of raw meat a day, plus bird biscuits soaked in blood.
  2. Anne Boleyn was executed by the clean stroke of an expert swordsman specially imported from France. 
  3. The first royal beasts to arrive at the Tower were lions, a polar bear and an elephant.
  4. The First Star of Africa, now mounted at the top of the Sovereign's Sceptre, is the largest cut diamond in the world.
  5. A detachment of the ‘Yeomen of the Guard’ (Beefeaters), have formed the Royal Bodyguard since at least 1509
